The But Valley joins Tolmezzo with Austria through Monte Croce Carnico Pass and is cross by the But Creek, from Timau to Tolmezzo where it flows into the Tagliamento river.

The Carnia region is crossed by the But Creek, which is born in Timau, the first village of the valley from the slope of the Floriz Mountain.
The creek crosses many villages: Paluzza, Sutrio, Zuglio and Arta Terme before flowing into the Tagliamento river in Tolmezzo. Just into this water fishing is possible thanks to the many species of mountain fishes.
